Spaghetti Tour - Monte Rosa

During the five days that we will pass together there will be the chance to cross the glacier at the peak of the valleys of Champoluc and Gressoney, sleeping overnight in comfortable refuges at high altitude. The high altitude alpine trails from Cervinia to Gressoney are at an altitude of between 3500 and 4300 mt.. We will leave from Plateau Rosa and we will arrive at Staffal, the last inhabited community in Gressoney la Trinité, before the huge glaciers.

On Monte Rosa

1st Day: meeting at Cervinia at 8.30 am and ascent by cable car up to Plateau Rosa (3480mt) where at the beginning we will be following, in part, the summer ski pistes of Zermatt, climb up to Breithorn west (4161mt) and then across all of the Glacier of Verra near Schwarztor (Porta Nera) where we divert to the right and descend to sleep at the refuge of the Guides of Val d’Ayas (commonly known as Lambronecca – 3394mt). Dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.

2nd Day: ascent to Castore (4228mt) for the west trails and descent to Refuge Quintino Sella (3585mt) after a well earned break there will be an explanation on self rescue in glacier conditions. Dinner and accommodation in a refuge.

3rd Day: early morning we leave the refuge to climb up to “Naso del Lyskam” (4200 mt. Approx) following the Lys Glacier. We will arrive to the highest refuge of Europe “Capanna Margherita” (4554 mt.). The hut is very popular with mountaineers, where 1000’s pass through every year.

4th Day: we will join the refuge “Città di Mantova” (3498) across the peaks of Zumstein (4563), Parrot (4463), Ludwigshoe (4284), Schwarhorn, Piramide Vincent. We will have some tea on the terrace and we will discuss future adventures on the peaks of the world! Dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.

5th Day: reserve day. If the weather condition permit that everything will go off according to plan, today we will ascent the peak Giordani. On the descent we pass by Refuge Città di Mantova to then traverse across the Indren Glacier to Passo dei Salati (2937mt) where we will ascend again up to the gondola lift which will take us to Staffal.

Ability level
Fit mountaineers of an average level, in search of new perspectives; considering that a good length of time is spent at altitudes above 3500mt, it is advisable that, to be able to complete the whole itinerary, you should have already climbed to a height of 4000mt (Gran Paradiso or Breithorn for example)

Weatherproof shoes with the possibility to attach crampons - ice axe – harness – backpack - water bottle – sunglasses - sun protection cream : min. protection factor 8 – anorak - wind jacket - hat - gloves – socks – undervest (minimum 3) – long underwear – pullover - change of T shirt – camera – healdlamp.

Group size:
Maximum of  2 people  per Alpine Guide.

  • the assistance of an alpine guide;
  • use of equipment for the group (ropes, pitons, karabiners).

Not included in the cost of the tour are:

  • board and lodging;
  • the technical equipment rental (ice axe and crampons – about 10 euro per day);
  • transfers.
